Ten Things - Part 2

6.Favorite Movies: Pride & Prejudice, The Day After Tomorrow
It was during the summer when my father came back a few years ago. He brought back a couple of DVD’s and souvenirs. My favorite past time is to watch movies. One night we had family movie night and I picked out, The Day After Tomorrow. While watching the movie, it moved me to be aware of the world. The plot was just so good that ever since I watched that movie, it became one of my favorites and I never cease to get bored of watching it.

7.Things I want to do: Bungee Jumping,Scuba Diving.
This is part of my bucket list. I never saw the movie, The Bucket List, but after hearing what it was about, I thought of what actions I would do as I aged. I chose scuba diving because it intrigued me. Wanting to see the underwater world, I wanted to see the beauty that I never got to see. I always wanted to go to the Bahamas and go see the beautiful natures under the world I always lived in. By scuba diving, I was doing something out of the world I live in.

8.Childhood Memories: Chicken Fried Rice, Strawberry Picking, Camping, Spinach, Chicago, Roti Canai
It was a long car ride with two families packed inside the mini van. My father and Chelsea's mom took turns driving the mini purple van to Chicago. We were meeting an Indonesian family and at the time, exploring America. Chicago, the windy city. It certainly was windy. Everyone was bundled in jackets and scarfs with hot drinks in their hands. Every day, the sky was cloudy, resulting in a gray feeling. However, it brought a different feeling of peaceful. Sometimes, the sun would come out to peek, but the sky was a pale blue with gray and white clouds. I recall Chelsea, my best friend, making a fuss about the boy, Ghifari, having a crush on me. It was those moments where the family enjoyed being together and having fun taking tourist pictures. After waiting in line, we finally were able to go to the top of the Sears Tower. It was an incredible feeling, it was almost like being on top of the world. Spending a total of 5 days, during our last night together, we all went out to eat. It was a Malaysian restaurant and a full house. With three families coming to a restaurant, we were all feeling comfort and excitement. I was a picky eater and I didn't trust eating new foods. My mother, father, and sister were eating an appetizer, and I was intrigued by it. My mom knew I was interested and so was my brother. A small bowl filled with curry, a small portion of beef, and fried thin bread caught my stomach. I ripped a piece of the bread into the curry and as I took my first bite, it melted on to my tongue and I suddenly liked it. Smiling after my first bite, everyone was suddenly glad that I enjoyed the dish.

9.Favorite Fruit: Banana, Kiwi, and Mango
Mangoes. Walking through the gates of my aunt’s front porch and entering her house, there was a melody of sounds that filled the house. Kids laughing and giggling, running feet through the groves of the second floor, and the mothers talking and laughing loud while spreading gossip like wildfire. It was the chill house, the house everyone went to after we had finished Islamic School. With it being a sunny day, the teenagers were outside having fun. The little kids watching That’s So raven and Kim Possible in my aunt’s bedroom fighting over the remote control and debating on who had farted. Roaming around, I went by the kitchen. There were huge cartons of mangoes. Another aunt screamed, “Everyone come down! There’s food and mango juice.” Glad of being first, I was able to get my large portion. Everyone came about and began crowding the kitchen and dining room. As we all relaxed after eating, the mango juice was our dessert and it cooled everyone.

10.Habits/Hobbies: Writing poetry, Watching movies & tv shows.
I remembered when I was younger, I had many dreams. I wanted to be a chef, a writer, a pianist. Slowly, they were erased due to the lack of inspiration and motivation. My father spoke to me as if I were an adult rather than a child. It isn’t harsh, but it helped me mature. I enjoyed writing, especially in elementary school. I was in sixth grade and I told my dad that I wanted to be a writer. He tried encouraging me to be a nurse, but I couldn’t position myself in that future. We weighted the pros and cons of being and writer. He also said, “One of the things of being a writer is your audience. If people don’t like your books, then you’re not an accomplished writer.” Ever since that conversation, I had a hobby of writing poetry to improve my writing. In my junior year of high school, there was a poetry contest within America. After writing a couple of pieces, I sent one called – Hidden within the Meadow. By July of this summer, I received a letter saying my work was being published. I was able to show my father my work and he was proud. His words were harsh, yet it made me want to prove that my work can be good.
