Entering Hunter College, I had a set mind to have high grades, understand and apply the material, and to become an excellent writer. As I sat in my Creative Fiction class, having weekly quizzes, writing in journals, and having group discussions, I was able to achieve more than what I actually planned. I feel more accomplished knowing that adapting to the college life is a big gap. In the beginning, I failed to wake up accordingly to time and it took me a while to organize my dates. Currently, I feel more adjusted to college. I wake up every day, knowing that I have a set goal, just trying to achieve and do my best and even more. I am my own perfection.
During this Fall Semester, I took Pre-Calculus and Forensics Biology, along with Government and Economics, and Creative Writing. I enjoyed coming to class each day. There was always something new to the table and although I took Calculus in high school, I saw the huge difference of taking classes in high school and college. No longer, the teacher looked upon the student’s shoulder to give a lending hand. Taking these classes, I saw the leap to independence. I am doing well in my classes, currently studying for finals. As I reread my notes consistently and memorize the material I have learned, I will have the determination and passion to do extremely well in my finals.
The year 2010 is slowly coming to an end and I suddenly agree with the phrase, life is short. It still astonishes me to know that I made it this far. The experiences that I will always treasure mold me to the present day. Within the next year on the same day, I can see myself, reflecting on my past. I can see myself working hard in the library finishing up papers, looking for internships, and meeting new people. As time goes by, the next five years, hopefully I will be graduating, going into graduate school, pursuing in a field that I have a passion for. By the time the calendar says 2020, I hope to have found a job, and continue learning. I will achieve these goals by commitment and devotion.
From the beginning of high school up until now, I have improved on my writing skills. I still need some improvement on being a better writer, but ever since I walked into Creative Fiction Writing, it helped me understand how a writer works. It will help me in the future because as I go into college and write papers, worked hard into getting into graduate school. A writing piece that I enjoyed within my fall semester is the six sentence fiction and realistic fiction. As I write, the concepts that are easy for me are conflict and tension. The only thing that I have difficulty is characterization. I plan on strengthening my skills by reading more books, holding and writing in a journal daily. At the end of the year, I hoped that I have increased my abilities of being a writer. Within the pre-college program, I hope to have enjoyed the college experience. I did enjoy the college experience and I learned how to time manage, be independent, and be tedious about my work.
This portfolio represents who I am as a writer because it shows my potential with writing. Every day that I came to Creative Fiction, I enjoyed learning about the techniques writers use daily. I have progressed and I am glad that I have written so many writing pieces.
It sounds like you have really progressed this past semester and that you are totally aware of what you need to do in order to continue to grown here at Hunter College.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to reading even more of your work come Spring!
